As the Deemed University status enables the educational institutes to design their own


syllabus and course work, many institutes apply to the Ministry of Human Resources and development for obtaining the deemed to be university status. The Ministry then puts forward the application to the University Grant Commission (UGC) of India.

The UGC then evaluates the Institute according to its set standard and recommends it for either the grant or rejection of Deemed to be University status.

The UGC may also point out to the institute the deficiencies it had found while examining and these institutes may acquire the Deemed to be University status in the due course of time.
